Sample Roleplay:
The scene fades in to a camera slowly passing above a barren desert looking down upon the dunes and sandstorms. A familiar chord strikes as "America - Horse with No Name" begins to play...
"...on the first part of the journey,
I was looking at all the life.
There were plants and birds. and rocks and things,
There was sand and hills and rings.
The first thing I met, was a fly with a buzz,
And the sky, with no clouds.
The heat was hot, and the ground was dry,
But the air was full of sound...
...the camera fades out and back in to a small distance from a group of men, dressed in long white robes covering their entire bodies, traveling horse back across the desert. That camera also fades out as it fades back in to a close up shot of the leader. It's John Cena. He looks down at the camera...
John Cena:
"So it's begun."
He looks back up and lets out a "Hyah" to have the horse quicken its pace. The camera pans out to see the men follow Cena to what looks like an oasis...
"...I've been through the desert on a horse with no name,
It felt good to be out of the rain.
In the desert you can remember your name,
'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain..."
The camera fades into a panning shot of the horses and men circling a spring in the middle of the shaded oasis. The men jump of the back of the horse and lead their mouths to the water. Following what the horses are doing, then men fill up their water bladders, as well as drinking from it themselves while they're on a short break. John Cena finishes filling up his bladder and walks over to a tree that hovers over the entire oasis. It's long leaves hang above all of the life underneath of it and outstretching over the spring. Cena looks up at it and smiles. He thanks the tree for it's shade and sits underneath of it. Cena reaches into his robe and pulls out a flask. He unscrews the top and takes a swig. Face clenched, he smiles and shakes his head. He looks at his companions and offers a a drink. Each of them take a swig, having the same reaction as Cena.
John Cena
"That'll put hair on your chest"
Here, here! says the men as the last one hands Cenas flask back. He takes one more swig and places it back within his robe. Cena looks around at the men surrounding here that helped him brave the hell that they've just been through. He looks up at the sky and closes his eyes...
"...After two days, in the desert sun,
My skin began to turn red.
After three days, in the desert fun,
I was looking at a river bed.
And the story it told, of a river that flowed,
Made me sad to think it was dead..."
After resting for a bit, Cena motioned to the men that it was time to press on. The horses jumped right up, refreshed and revitalized. Cena hops on the horses back and wait for each man to jump on their horses. As soon as the last one settles in Cena calls out his horse.
John Cena:
"Hyah!"
And with that yell the horse began its journey with Cena and his crew back on their perilous journey through the desert.
For what seemed like days of traveling and not seeing any signs of life the horse behind Cena collapsed trapping one of the men under it. Cena jumped off his horses back as well as the other men. They rushed to the trapped mans aid and lifted the horse up just enough for him to slide out. The man stood up and was virtually unscathed.
John Cena:
You're a lucky man my friend
The man agrees with Cena. John hops back up onto his horse and advises the others to do the same. The horseless man climbs behind Cena as they continue to press on.
"...after nine days, I let the horse run free,
'Cause the desert had turned to sea.
There were plants and birds, and rocks and things,
There was sand and hills and rings.
The ocean is a desert, with its life underground,
And a perfect disguise above.
Under the cities lies, a heart made of ground,
But the humans will give no love..."
The weight of heat exhaustion and water deprivation begin to take a toll on all of the men. Finally, in the distance, they see another Oasis. They rush over with their horses and begin filling their mouths with water as well as the horses. The men once again fill their bladders and whatever flasks they could find. John Cena finishes his thirst and begins to explore the Oasis. Sitting in the same spot and teasing him, almost laughing, is the same tree the men seen days earlier. Cena shakes his head and walks over to it, not believing his eyes. He's nearly in tears as he sees foot prints and horse prints leading out to the desert.
John Cena:
No... no.. NO! This can't be! This can not be real!
Almost in tears Cena turns to his men. All of the men are collapsed as well as the horses. Cena rushes over to them and shakes one. He notices the man doesn't feel whole. Cena lifts up the robe to reveal nothing but sand. As he turns to the others and the horse he finds nothing but giant mounds of sand. Cena puts his head down in his hands and cries. He lifts his head up and let's out a yell that would be heard for miles... if anyone else was out there to begin with. As he finally focuses once more he looks around to see he's not in the Oasis anymore, but all alone on top of a dune and no signs of life in any direction. He's alone, and comes to the realization that he's been lost for days and no one was ever there by his side.
"...You see I've been through the desert on a horse with no name,
It felt good to be out of the rain.
In the desert you can remember your name,
'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain..."
Knowing that this is it. Knowing that his last piece of sanity is about to escape his very soul, he lays back in the sand and closes his eyes. A sharp pain fills his body as Death himself creeps up through the sand, grabbing Cena from behind and dragging him down, into the depths. Screaming .... screaming ... until...
...*BEEP*...*BEEP*...*BEEP*...
The sound of an alarm going up wakes Cena up out of what seemed like a sleep that lasted forever. Covered in sweat, he shuts the alarm off and wipes his face. He sits up ... looks around ... blackness. He stands up and walks over to the light switch. He motions to turn the light on, but quickly negates the idea and keeps walking out his bedroom door. Cena walks down his dimly lit hallway, passing pictures of him holding former Championships, shaking hands with famous people, and even a couple posing with children from the Make-A-Wish foundation. He finally gets to the living room and looks around. Championships, trophies, pictures, and memorabilia clutter the room. He smiles flips a switch and walks out the front door. The switch turned on the porch light as Cena walks over to a rocking chair. The camera switches to one that pans the outside of the porch and watches Cena sit down. The sounds of the night fill our ears. Crickets chirping, an owl hooting in the distance. The camera switches back to Cena just as a cool breeze washes across his face. He closes his eyes and enjoys the refreshing gift.
John Cena:
It seems no matter where I go, trouble and drama seem to follow. It also seems that no matter where I go, I always find that small amount of peace that is seldom felt. In every promotion I've been in I've felt the power of gold, the power of betrayal, and the power of politics. I've been offered contracts and even banned from other promotions. But even through all that. Even through all the nonsense and all through the hectic life that I lead, I still find that tranquility. I find that time that needs to be had by everyone. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't question the integrity of the people around me. No offense to anyone, but I've been fed to the wolves and lied to by snakes for the majority of my career. The kicker is that I've always stuck my neck out, even when I knew something wasn't going anywhere. I always extended a hand to the lower guy and tried to help them out the best way I knew how. I try to be a teacher and a mentor to everyone. Sometimes, though, I try to be the student. Because every promotion that I've been in I been surrounded by greatness. The wrestlers around me have taught me everything I know, but when the fresh meat comes in, I usually latch on to them, tell them stories and teach them the ways. All I do is extend a handshake.
Cena stands up and looks around at his lit yard. He steps down off his porch and begins to walk a slow pace down his walkway. The camera pans to his side and watches him as he walks.
John Cena:
But, when you're the guy everyone wants to talk to in the locker room, you going to also be the guy everyone talks about in the locker room. You get made fun of, picked on, and when things go wrong, the finger points at you. And the reason is because you're held in such high regard. But to be the most recognized and respected, you have to walk through it all. Weather the storm and you will achieve everything you ever wanted. You just need to grab it when the time is right. And the only person who knows the right time is you. You need to make that time. No one is going to give it to you. No one is going to go out of their way and give you the push you need. It's up to you to bring it every night, give life to the crowd and feed off the energy that they're serving you because once you have a taste, no man can take that away from you!
Cena reaches the end of his walkway and is met with a wall of darkness.
John Cena:
Naples, are you willing to go that extra mile to grab that brass? Or will you always stand behind the wall? I'm sorry, but I for one can't just stand and wait for things to happen. Because when you go that extra step and take that mile, a whole new world opens up to you. Just ... takes ... one ... step.
John Cena takes a step through the blackness and trips his motion censor. The censor triggers lights that engulf the darkness. The scene that is laid out before us shows a willow tree next to a lake. In the center of the lake is a small island with a single tree on it. The tree stands tall over the lake with its branches outstretching across the water. Cena continues to follow his walkway down to a wooden boat dock. At the end of the dock sits a chair. He walks down to it and sits down and enjoys another fresh breeze on his skin.
John Cena:
I was never one to wait for my time to shine. I see an opportunity and I grab it. I don't hold back. I don't hold a punch that needs thrown or a word that needs held back. What I always say is real. I don't candy coat, or gloss. It's all me. So every word I spill, you're getting the real John Cena every time. The passion that I have for this business always carriess me through every tough time, every drought, every loss, every cheer and every jeer. The passion that I have for this business is what's kept me here wrestling for who ever would take me. The life that I lead may not be suitable for some people, but it's the path I chose and it's the path I will die on. The main reason I have such a love for this business is because I'm still such a huge fan myself.
I remember sitting on my Dads lap when Hulk Hogan would come out. The energy that he would get out of the crowd and the feeling he gave the fans, that's what I wanted to do. That's who I wanted to be. I still visit my Dad, and we still watch old wrestling tapes together. And the feeling never changes. I warp back to being that 5 year old kid cheering and yelling at the TV with my Dad. It's being a fan of what I love doing that gives me the motivation and strive to keep going out in that ring every night and leaving everything I have in it. Whether it be 20 people or 20,000 screaming fans, I will wrestle every match like I'm in Madison Square Gardens at the grandest stage of them all.
Cena leans back into the chair and smiles.
John Cena:
So Naples, this Monday, we have a match together on the very first card of RWF. And it just so happens that the match were in is a tournament of sorts. And what for? The thing that I always wanted to earn since I was that little boy. The World Heavyweight Championship. I don't plan on walking out of that ring with a loss under my belt, so you can count that out straight out the door. I also don't plan on going out there and being able to just shove you over like a leaf in the wind. What I do plan on is me and you throwing one hell of a fight and feeding the crowd with some of the best moves in wrestling. I plan on going out there and earning myself a victory and getting one step closer to every wrestlers ultimate goal.
Naples, on Monday, you better bring your A-Game, because believe me, I'm not letting up on anything. Everything I have is going right into that match. It's the inaugural RWF show, and I plan on being undefeated by the end of it. Your time is over before it even began Naples. My Time ........ IS NOW!
Cena looks away from the camera as it pans over to the tree in the middle of the lake. The scene fades out as the RWF logo washes across the screen.
