Sample Roleplay:
Death Before Dishonor is going to go down as one of the most shocking and influential pay-per-views in the long and storied history of the EBWF. The fans have made their way out of the AT&T Center, the ring is torn down and most of the EBWF talent and employees have long since left the arena as our scene opens up. The same cannot be said, however, for the new number one contender to the Intercontinental Championship. The Franchise Shane Douglas has packed up his ring gear, now sporting a pair of blue jeans and a black polo with his signature Franchise logo in yellow, and a suitcase at his feet.
THE FRANCHISE SHANE DOUGLAS
“I told you that just because you weren’t the reason I wasn’t in the Elimination Chamber match didn’t mean that I wasn’t going to take my frustration out on you.”
Shane’s HEAD Cheerleader, Francine, stands next to him wearing a pair of cut off jean shorts and a black tank top, a suitcase also sitting at her feet.
THE FRANCHISE SHANE DOUGLAS
“If you didn’t take my warning seriously that’s your own damn fault. Matt Hardy…you might not have been the reason I wasn’t fighting for the EBWF World Championship earlier tonight, but you found yourself in the wrong place at the wrong time, just like I said you would. And if I were you I’d make sure to stay clear of The Franchise from here on out, because the fact that you were able to leave San Antonio under your own power was a gift. Listen to what I’m saying, a GIFT, Hardy. You haven’t done anything to The Franchise except find yourself in the wrong place at the wrong time, so I decided to let you wrestle another match, I decided not to end your career earlier tonight. But, understand this Matt, if you cross The Franchise, if you find yourself back on my radar, getting in my way, trying to prevent me from accomplishing what I’ve set out to accomplish in the EBWF you’re not going to be so lucky. You’re not going to receive this gift ever again, it was a one time offer. So, I sincerely suggest that you pack up, move on and forget about The Franchise, forget about Death Before Dishonor and forget about the EBWF Intercontinental Championship. If you don’t you’re going to be doing yourself, and your health, a tremendous disservice. I understand that the reason I’m not standing here before you tonight as the new EBWF World Champion isn’t your fault Matt, but I won’t remember that if you get in my way EVER again. I’ll forget the fact that you never did anything to cross me, and I’ll forget that I had the slightest bit of mercy and I’ll make sure I never give you that gift again. If you didn’t take my warning earlier tonight Matt, make sure you take it now because if you don’t, because if you decide to get in my way ever again it’ll be the last thing you ever do in this business.”
By the look of things The Franchise and his HEAD Cheerleader are were you saw them just hours before the pay-per-view, deep inside the AT&T center. Francine stands with her hands on her hips and a cocky expression across her face.
THE HEADCHEERLEADER FRANCINE
“Poor, poor Matt Hardy. Poor little Matt Hardy from North Carolina, poor little fella’ didn’t deserve to get his ass FRANCHISED earlier tonight, he just found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time, right?”
Francine scoffs and rolls her eyes.
THE HEADCHEERLEADER FRANCINE
“That kind of thinking makes me SICK! If I had it my way Matt Hardy’s last professional wrestling match would have been TONIGHT! So, I sincerely suggest that poor little Matt Hardy stays away from us, stays far, FAR away from the both of us, because if I get another opportunity to dictate a match between him and The Franchise make no mistake about it, it WILL be poor little Matt’s last match!”
Douglas chuckles in response.
THE FRANCHISE SHANE DOUGLAS
“HAH! You’re right Fran, and as much enjoyment, as much pure enjoyment as I would get out of ending that little bastards career, the fact is I just don’t have time for him. I’ve got bigger things to worry about, bigger goals to concern myself with…Championship gold to concern myself with.”
THE HEADCHEERLEADER FRANCINE
“And as much enjoyment, as much pure enjoyment as you’d get out of ending his career, I’d get ten times the enjoyment out of watching that! My goal is to be the HEAD Cheerleader to the most successful version of The Franchise that the world has ever seen, and right now that means our focus turns to you…”
Francine points right at the camera.
THE HEADCHEERLEADER FRANCINE
“Cody Rhodes.”
Douglas laughs again, but this time much louder.
THE FRANCHISE SHANE DOUGLAS
“Hah…hah…HAH! You want to talk about a poor son of a bitch? You want to talk about being in the wrong place at the wrong time? That place and that time is going to be whenever The Franchise gets his hands around that the neck of Cody Rhodes because I’m going to squeeze the kid until he has a final breath in his lungs, then I’m going to pick him up and drop his pasty ass with a Franchiser and take my Intercontinental Championship. The difference here, the difference when I get my hands on Rhodes is going to be this…he’s NOT blameless. He’s not innocent in anyway and for that I’m no going to show him an ounce of mercy. You thought tonight was bad? You thought I ran through Matt Hardy with virtually no resistance? Well, that wasn’t anything. That was going to look like a struggle compared to what I have in store for Cody Rhodes. I don’t know when and I don’t know where I’ll get my shot but understand this, Rhodes isn’t blameless. He isn’t innocent. He’s the Intercontinental Champion and that was his mistake right there, he should’ve known that when The Franchise settled all the horsesh*t outside the ring with the lawyers and returned to the EBWF that sooner rather than later I was going to come for what he has. He thought he could duck me, he thought he could bide his time and rack up wins in the mean time. HAH! Kid, I’ve been at this far too long, I’ve seen a hundred kids like you try and run, try and outlast The Franchise…but it never works. At the end of the day I always find you and I always take what’s mine. I don’t know where and I don’t know when but Cody, your day to get FRANCHISED is coming and coming fast.”
Shane tosses his had back just a bit and begins laughing. He continues laughing as he pulls his suitcase out of the scene, with Francine in tow. A few seconds later our scene turns to black and white snow. The scene remains this way for about fifteen or twenty seconds before an image returns, once again an image of the number one contender to the Intercontinental Championship and his HEAD Cheerleader.
THE FRANCHISE SHANE DOUGLAS
“I don’t have to know him, I can’t stand the kid.”
Douglas is sporting a pair of dark jeans and a yellow polo, a yellow pair of sunglasses on top of his head and a five o’clock shadow. He standing in front of a large window, looking outside, with this back to the camera.
THE HEADCHEERLEADER FRANCINE
“Good. That’s what I want to hear. You need to pull out all the stops in this match whether you need to or not, you can’t leave anything to chance. This is exactly the opening you’ve been looking for. “
Francine is wearing a pair of jeans herself, with a black top and a pair of black sunglasses resting on top of her head. She’s sitting on the edge of a bed, apparently our new scene finds Shane Douglas and his HEAD Cheerleader in a hotel room.
THE FRANCHISE SHANE DOUGLAS
“I’ve been a part of the EBWF for one month now and my list of victims is already a mile long. I could stand here and tell you how I was faster than an opponent that supposedly was the quickest in the game, or how I was stronger than an opponent that by the sound of things could bench press a car. I could stand here and tell you that for the last month the only person in this promotion that has been able to top The Franchise is the EBWF’s Golden Boy, who was going to win that match come hell or high water. I could stand here and tell you that a swarm of locust and another doomsday prophecy wasn’t going to keep Chris Jericho from competing in the main event at Death Before Dishonor and that was the ONLY match in the last month that I wasn’t able to win, I could stand here and talk about all that for the next hour, but everyone already knows all of this. I returned to the EBWF last month at Aftermath and one month later at Death Before Dishonor I became the number one contender to the Intercontinental Championship, one of the most prestigious Titles in all of professional wrestling. How many people have had this kind of success this quickly? How many people have been able to defeat four opponents and secure the number one contender to the Intercontinental Championship in one month’s time? I imagine the list of people who have accomplished that is pretty short, but no one should be surprised I’ve had this kind of success this quickly, after all I am the…”
Douglas turns around so that he’s facing both Francine and the camera.
THE FRANCHISE SHANE DOUGLAS
“Franchise.”
THE HEADCHEERLEADER FRANCINE
“This is going to be the biggest match of Cody Rhode’s career, and not just because it’s going to be his toughest Title defense yet. Not just because he’s going to need to wrestle best match of his life AND receive divine intervention to keep his Title, but because whether he admits it or not you paved the way for him.”
THE FRANCHISE SHANE DOUGLAS
“What Cody Rhodes admits and what he doesn’t admit to means positively d*ck to The Franchise. Not only did I pave the way for Cody Rhodes, but I paved the way for everyone else in the EBWF. Everyone from Goldberg, to Batista, to our new World Champion CM Punk…without The Franchise they’d be living a completely different life right now. They’d be employed, sure. They’d be professional wrestlers at the end of the day, but it’d be a hell of a lot different. The reason that anyone in this promotion is able to go about their day the way they do is thanks to one man, is that to the Franchise.”
THE HEADCHEERLEADER FRANCINE
“You’re exactly correct. What you’ve done over the last twenty plus years is truly remarkable, and it’s been my pleasure being at your side for the majority of that time. Seventeen years ago when you changed the sport of professional wrestling, when you changed the landscape from the cartoon figures and unbelievable gimmicks to the real, raw form of our sport we know today…when that went down you changed it all, Shane. Cody Rhodes should be on his knees thanking you.”
THE FRANCHISE SHANE DOUGLAS
“You’re damn right he should be, but so should everyone else in this promotion. So should everyone else in this SPORT! Wes Ikeda and Dick-whatever-his-name-is should be cutting The Franchise checks every other week for making what they do today possible. Do you think the EBWF would be able to get away with the majority of the things they do if it weren’t for the Franchise?”
THE HEADCHEERLEADER FRANCINE
“Absolutely not.”
THE FRANCHISE SHANE DOUGLAS
“I made it acceptable to speak your mind, and stand up for what you think professional wrestling should be. If it weren’t for me Wes wouldn’t be doing half of what does.”
Douglas shakes his head.
THE FRANCHISE SHANE DOUGLAS
“With all of that said I’m not expecting the respect I deserve from Cody Rhodes. I fully expect that I’ll need to beat every ounce of respect right out of that kid, and not only am I’m expecting to do that but I’m PREPARED to do just that.”
Shane focuses his attention directly on the camera, Francine looks on with a smirk.
THE FRANCHISE SHANE DOUGLAS
“Francine is right Cody, this is the biggest match of your entire life. I’m sure this will be difficult to wrap your head around, but this match is about more than the EBWF Intercontinental Title, it’s about more than your toughest Title defense, to date…or ever, for that matter. You see Cody, the reason you’re able to have the success you’re having in this industry is thanks to one man, The Franchise Shane Douglas. If I didn’t do what I did seventeen years ago, if I didn’t risk my own career to better this industry, you’d probably be bagging groceries right now. What you don’t understand is the landscape of professional wrestling used to be very, very different than it is today. It used to be filled with characters, cartoons and people dressed in ridiculous costumes. It wasn’t cutting edge, it wasn’t violent…for as vanilla as I think the product is today at times, it’s very real, and very raw compared to what it was before I changed the game seventeen years ago. There is no way you would’ve been able to walk your pasty ass down the ramp, climb into the ring, and wrestle the way you do twenty years ago. Your style wouldn’t have been appreciated then, you would’ve been eaten up and spit out by the machine, you career would’ve lasted one or two years, tops. I changed the game seventeen years ago and I made it possible for PEOPLE to be successful. I suppose you’re going to tell me that I don’t need to remind you of this because your Daddy was a part of it, that you learned first hand about the way thinks used to be from your precious Daddy. Well Cody, let me tell you a little something about your Daddy…”
Grinning.
THE FRANCHISE SHANE DOUGLAS
“Your Daddy is full of SH*T, Cody! HAH! Your Daddy dearest is one of the biggest pieces of sh*t I’ve ever come across in this business and I’ve laid awake at night thinking about how badly I want to smack the taste out of his mouth, the same mouth that devoured pounds and pounds of fried chicken on the road, the same mouth that helped talk our sport into a hole so deep that ONLY the Franchise could dig out of it. You see Cody, your Daddy dearest is part of the problem, he isn’t part of the solution like The Franchise is. If you want to exceed expectations, if you want to really make a name for yourself in this industry I suggest that you stop listening to your Father, stop looking up to him and START listening to the Franchise and start looking up to Shane Douglas. If you want to carve a lasting legacy for yourself you’ll listen to my advice, Cody. Your Father was part of the problem when used to run around arenas in polka dots and use an elbow shot as a finishing move. Can you imagine that, Cody? Polka dots! That is the man that you look up to and the man that you learned this business from, a man that used to run around in polka dots! If you call yourself a professional wrestler, if you respect this business you wouldn’t look up to a man who used an elbow shot as a finishing maneuver. I know this is hard to hear Cody, but you know that I’m right. Your Daddy was successful because he was a vanilla, hogsh*t, fried chicken eating character and NOT because he could wrestle. I could, have and WILL wrestle circles around any member of the Rhodes family, because I have too much self respect to lose to someone from a family that doesn’t represent the same values and ideals when it comes to this sport as I do. Your Pops was part of the problem Cody, so I went ahead and changed the game seventeen years ago, I eliminated the problem. And understand this, I’m going to do the same thing when I take the EBWF Intercontinental Championship away from you, I’m going to eliminate the problem. Only this time I won’t be throwing anything down or making a speech, this time I’m going to eliminate the problem with a Plunge, a Franchiser and a couple belly to belly suplexes. I’m going to eliminate the problem by doing what I’ve done better than everyone else for over twenty years, I’m going to out-wrestle the problem.”
THE HEADCHEERLEADER FRANCINE
“And that’s just the first step in eliminating the problem this time.”
Shane turns his attention his HEAD Cheerleader once again.
THE FRANCHISE SHANE DOUGLAS
“After I show Cody Rhodes what it means to be a professional in this industry I’m going to take the Intercontinental Championship to new heights, heights that pervious holders couldn’t imagine. In due time this Belt is going to mean more than the World Championship, and I’ll once again have changed the landscape of this sport. I don’t except a letter from Wes Ikeda thanking me for what I did seventeen years ago, and I don’t expect a thank you this time around, when I revolutionize our sport in his own promotion. I don’t expect a thank you, or a letter, or even a handshake because I’ve ever got one, I’ve never received the proper respect for what I’ve done for this business, why would it start now? And further, why would I start letting it get to me now? I’m going to handle it the same way I’ve handled it for over twenty years, I’m going to take it out in the ring, on my opponent.”
THE HEADCHEERLEADER FRANCINE
“That means you, Cody. That means you’re going to answer for the disrespect we’ve received all these years. Wrong place, wrong time? Nope. Not this time. You asked for this by being a Title holder.”
THE FRANCHISE SHANE DOUGLAS
“He asked for this by holding the Intercontinental Championship, you’re exactly right. He asked for a beating, he asked for a loss and he asked to lose his Title…it’s the rest of this business that asked for the degree of the beating, the level of the loss and the manner in which he’ll lose his Title. It’s history that asked for what I have in store for Cody Rhodes.”
Turning his attention back to the camera.
THE FRANCHISE SHANE DOUGLAS
“And history is a bitter companion, kid.”
Shane stares right through the camera, laughing as our scene fades.
