The darkness of the night has fallen, abominable shadows mocking the the fearful mind in every direction, where only few can hold an affinity. It is a sublime feeling to know you are utterly alone. Few men are impervious enough to withstand such misery.
The night sky is clear with a plethora of stars happily shinning. Resting below the astronomical beauty rests pulchritudinous hills, flowing like smooth cursive into the night. The hills are voluptuous, covered superciliously with nature’s finest offerings. The flamboyances juxtaposes the darkness leaving such a halcyon aura behind.
On top of a hill, Mankind is sitting lucubrating the scenery. His long hair drapes over his face, concealing all emotions; arms are wrapped awkwardly around his immolated body. He slowly rocks back and forth, not from nerves but from torment, before slowly words fall from his lips.
As a child I always loved the night. On the nights that Momma would pass out drunk early, I would sneak out of the cellar and wander out into the fields. I knew that if I got caught I would be beaten blue, but there was always something so tranquil that drew me out. For some reason the night was a sanctuary and as a child it was the only time I could ever... smile.
It took me a long time, but I’m not stupid so I figured it out... but in the darkness, amongst the shadows, I was free. I was free of the judgement, the staring eyes, the brutal, dishonest words. In the sun people looked at me like a monster! In the daylight, I always walked with my head down low, and cringed every time I saw a shadow, because although I never looked up, I knew those eyes were glaring right through me. But in the dark I am not a monster! In the dark I can feel human... I can feel alive. In the dark, I am unable to be ridiculed and scrutinized. As a child I was able to play ball in the dark without worry - as I grew older I was able to think, just imagine kissing Olivia Karaman’s lips. I was able to be normal... no, I was able to be whoever I wanted to be! I was able to be a heart breaker, I was able to be the guy every girl drooled over.
I’m really nice guy! But for some reason I never found a date to the prom! I never swept into the arms of a lady and got my first kiss! On a Friday night when everyone went to the movies... I spent the night alone; yet, in the darkness I was never alone. I was surrounded by everything that made this world scared. I was surrounded by all of the world’s greatest fears. I’ll never understand why people are so afraid of the dark, of the unknown, but I guess it worked out well for me, because I never had to share the beauty of the night with anyone else.
Mankind stands, his agrestic body sparkles in the moon. He struts through the meadows, picking up flowers, wrapping them around his fist. His motions quickly come to a halt as he stumbles upon a dead rabbit. Schadenfreude spills on his face, a quirky grin emerges. The rabbit finds it’s way into the hands of Mankind, before being sent flying through the air, disappearing into the starring night. FInally a tree emerges from the shadows, sweetly flowing a mellifluous aroma, dragging in the sweetest creatures. Mankind sits against the strong tree, back resting against the rough oak.
In the sweetness of the unknown, I see a dream ahead. Where Mankind is not a name to draw fear, but it is a name that causes you to rise to your feet and scream my name. I guess you might say I’m a dreamer... but I’m not the only one! And don’t you for a second get to thinking I am! Because this Saturday I am walking into Lincoln, Nebraska to face the ultimate dreamer.
Jacob Jones, you are a dreamer. You are lost in your own thoughts. Much like me you were crushed at a young age. When all you wanted was Scott Levy to show you love, I was fighting for love as well. But Jones, I’m not dreaming any longer! And while you are dreaming, and in your mind you are “The Raven,” it is nothing more than a game of dress-up! You are fighting to become someone... something that you are not! And I hate to be the one to tell you, but your dream will soon be a nightmare! Because you are not ready to face me... you will not even be able to handle Mankind!
Because I am too determined to escape the nightmares that have plagued me for so long... and you are just entering them. Jacob Jones... a lot of people might compare you to the night. When they look out they are unsure of what they are seeing. The reality of what they see is altered. The shadows cast a different story of what the truth holds, but the sun always rises to reveal the truth. Jones, you can cast yourself and proclaim yourself to be anything you want in the shadows, that right there is experience talking, but the sun always rises again, causing the shadows to run. But isn’t it pretty to think what it would be if the darkness stayed forever?
The sun begins to peak over the outskirts of the hills. Slowly the beauty seen in the dark begins to vanish. As the sun continues the ascend into the sky, the moon cowards away, and the entire majestic vicinity crumbles to rubble.
