On this edition of The Mind Behind, we look at one of the current best talent in SNME, Anthony Ferraro. It's very well possible that he may be a future World Champion. Let's see what's on his mind.
Who or what got you interested in the world of E-Feds?
The first fed I ever was really in, I came across through a completely random email from a person I barely talked to on MSN. I clicked the link, went to the site (MSN Groups, if anyone remembers any of that stuff) and tried to figure out what I was looking at. I was interested, as I was a passionate wrestling fan at the time (2005.) I wound up staying there for a year or two. For someone who had just started, I was really good, at least in their eyes and became a big part of the fed. It was completely shit compared to SNME though.
Do you remember your first match/experience?
My first match overall, my opponent no-showed. My first match in SNME, I was tagging with Andrew Brannan against none other than my opponent in the Mind Behind Poll this week, HBK Shawn Michaels and his partner, who I think was Chris Sabin. Yeah, we lost, but I was trash, Brannan and I were garbage. It was fun to write that roleplay though, I went and read it sometime last week, by gawd it was awful.
What is the driving force behind your role-plays and where do you come up with your ideas?
Each and every one of my roleplays is usually inspired by music. From the beginning of the 2009 run all the way up until I faced Mason Moore for the first time, I had always used a song as a title and guidance. Lately, I've been trying to give my character depth and a history to work on. Currently, I'm building my "new character's" personality. It will all lead up to stronger, easier to attach to roleplays.
How did you come up with the idea to play Naples Knight?
Wow, I just remember sitting there trying to think of a gimmick and I came up with this Italian guy (I was heavily into my heritage at the time) who was really cocky like Randy Orton when he wasn't Blandy Borton (TM Hafiz). I just wanted to be Orton. I wanted to be an Italian Orton and "Naples Knight" was a good name for me at the time, I was a little kid basically. I still get referred to as Nipples Knight all the time and have ever since I created the character.
Is Anthony Ferraro here to stay, or will we see the return of Naples Knight?
Naples Knight will never be dead, he's a reminder of where Anthony Ferraro came from. We'll see him make reoccurring visits in upcoming roleplays, I promise.
Whatever happened to your tag-team partner, Andrew Brannan?
Andy grew tired of not only roleplaying, but the atmosphere I guess. We were treated pretty badly when we first came around by everyone. He just wanted no part of the e-wrestling world anyway. He was a great e-booker though, he should work for the WWE one day, he's a natural. Now-a-day's, I don't know if he's really into wrestling anymore, he's become more of a movie guy to my knowledge. I haven't talked to him about SNME since 07, but I'm sure a return would never happen, sadly.
What has been your most memorable feud?
I was never really apart of an established feud in SNME, sadly. I had a brief two week or so build up with Bryan Danielson before his retirement match at The Last Stop in 2009 and that was really fun. I remember writing that roleplay with so much passion. Dan is one of my best friends in real life and to face him in SNME was a big deal for me I suppose.
What are some things you really like about E-Wrestling?
I love writing, I always have. I also love competition. E-Wrestling combines writing and competition in such a superb manor, all under sport. Which makes it that much better. I've recently gotten back into wrestling, so it's become that much more fun to read results. It's such an empowering feeling to read the results and see that you've successfully out-written another person. It's a great outlet to my creativeness as well. When I was away from SNME, I would have ideas for RPs and just wanted to write them all out.
What about things you dislike?
Sometimes it feels like a chore. I haven't fallen into that rut, but when the fun stops, it just becomes frustrating. I hate not having a good idea for a match, because when I write, it needs to be great otherwise I'm dissatisfied. Trying to organize an idea is stressful too, but it's all apart of the game.
Do you prefer working as a heel, face, or neutral?
I like being neutral, honestly. It's easier. You have so much freedom in your roleplays. I enjoy being face though, it's nice to know that you have the "fans" in the arena behind you. I've grown out of being a heel, but I could see a turn back to heel if I need to for something pertaining to the fed, but not by preference. At least not at the given time.
In a RP what do you mainly focus: Character Development, talking trash about your opponents, or deep detail? And why is that?
I used to be all about the deep detail, I love making my RPs clear as crystal and easy to see. Lately, I've been trying to find a balance between character development and deep detail and I think I'm coming around nicely. However, my main focus is character development since I'm moving in another direction with "Naples." I didn't realize how much work you have to do in order to really progress your character. It takes quite a few weeks to really show the way you turn yourself. New attitude, new alignment, new personality. It's vigorous work.
How do you keep up with your personal life and your E-fed life?
Well, I have my laptop wherever I go. And my girlfriend knows about SNME and most of the people in it, so it's not like I have to reserve special time to go log into the site. It's not like I'm out 24/7. I'm always up until about 6 AM anyway, so it gives me plenty of time to roam about the forum and the rest of the internet.
What is your motivation to continue churning out all of these roleplays?
My love for writing and winning. I want to be the best, plain and simple. I've been working my way up the ranks lately and I finally see all of my hard work paying off. I think that's a big part of staying interested, knowing that things are changing for the better.
How do you like the Out Of Character atmosphere?
I love it for the most part. I find most of the people on SNME to be rather enjoyable to talk to in the xat chat and on AIM for the most part as well. I feel like you guys are a family basically, I'm comfortable talking about things with you guys that I'm not comfortable talking about with anyone else. You're all beautiful people. Except Tim.
What is your favorite roleplay that you have written in your time with SNME?
Hallowed Be Thy Name vs. Danielson was my first really solid piece and I loved writing it. I think my top three would include that, "These Lights." vs. Moore vs. Jones and "My Only Form" vs. Moore.
Can you see yourself becoming the World Heavyweight Champion?
I think I stand a very good chance of being the World Heavyweight Champion. I don't mean to sound arrogant, but I do feel I'm getting a lot better and the title is literally a match away if I can manage to pull out the caliber RP I'm gonna demand from myself.
What has been your best and worst e-wrestling experiences?
My best was beating Moore and Jones to earn the last spot in the Chamber. I've never been so happy to win a match, I wanted this opportunity so bad and now I finally learned that I deserve it. A close second was Danielson's retirement match. My worst experience was posting a match winning RP in the wrong thread for Brawl 4 All back in 07/08 and getting really pissed off that my rookie mistake wasn't overlooked and I wasn't awarded the win. That was around the time I ultimately decided to step away from SNME.
Have you set any goals for your character and if so, how close are you to having achieved them?
I have two set goals and I'll admit them openly. My first is to win the world title, specifically at H2H. My second is to have a fantastic feud with one of the men I mentioned earlier. I'm as close as I can possibly imagine myself for the first goal. The second, that's a good alternate route if I can't come up big like I'm going to push myself above and beyond to do.
Is there anyone in particular that you would like to feud with in the future?
There are a few guys that I really want to feud with before I decide to step away for good. In no particular order, they are Mason Moore, Seth Akira, Johnny Magnum and The Roy. I think I'd have an amazing back-and-forth run with Moore. Seth's character reminds me a lot of my own. Johnny and Roy are the two guys that have kept me interested in roleplaying and I've always wanted to go up against them.
Have you ever felt under-appreciated for your work in roleplays?
Absolutely. I'd rather not go into detail though.
Are there any Characters no longer active in SNME that you would have liked to feud with?
Bryan F'n Danielson. I wish our little bout could have lasted over a larger span, but it's alright, I still had that one match with him.
If you could meet any three roleplayers in person, who would you choose and why?
I met Danielson already, he spent a weekend at my house, so after him I would choose:
1. The Roy
2. Johnny Magnum
3. Bailey (Kammy)
And Tim so I can fuck his girlfriend.
Who do you think the Top 5 roleplayers are currently and why?
1. Justin Tyger - His roleplays capture you completely. The stories he tell are always so interesting and he always leaves you wanting more. Plus he's just so damn gorgeous, you never wanna look away.
2. Seth Akira - I love his imagery and his character. His roleplays are always a pleasure to read. His recent gimmick change is also creating a new... Something about him and I love following it as it grows. I can really relate to his character. He's a guy I'd love to feud with in the future.
3. Mason Moore - First of all, he's an author outside of SNME, so he's got his shit together better than any of us as far as writing goes. His language is beautiful, his story is beautiful, his dialogue is beautiful, his imagery is great. In my opinion, he's already at World Title contending status. One of the few people that I look forward to reading their RPs each week.
4. Randy Orton - Does ranking him 4th mean I don't think he deserves the title? No. 2 of the 3 times that his title has been on the line, I do think he earned his victory. Don't take offense to this, I'm not trying to insult you or your abilities by any means. I think he is a very good RPer and my prediction is the Age of Orton will end at H2H.
5. G Stone - Without a doubt the best descriptive writer in SNME. You want a picture painted for you in your RPs? He does it better than any of us. His roleplays are all very strong and he's closer to the World Title now than he ever has been in my opinion.
What more can we expect from Anthony Ferraro?
Hopefully a World Title reign, ha. You can expect nothing but the unexpected from my character. The history will unfold, just as much as the future will. Cryptic messages are fun!
What do you hope to have accomplished by this time next year?
Hopefully getting an acceptance letter from Columbia University in my mailbox above all! But as far as roleplaying, I'd like to see the World Title on Anthony Ferraro and I want to have one of the best, interesting and personal feuds that this site has ever seen. I guess we'll just have to see how long I can keep up and the same goes for the fed.
Do you see yourself retiring from SNME anytime soon?
Not very soon, but it's always a possibility with my senior year and work coming around. I'll do my best to keep this in my priorities, but no promises.
What would be your dream match and who would be in it?
The Roy vs. Johnny Magnum vs. Anthony Ferraro in a ladder match for the World Title. I love ladder matches to death. I would never have established myself in 09 if not for Roy and I wouldn't have even known SNME was alive in '11 if not for Magnum. They're two of my best buds, so I'd couldn't imagine a better match to have.
Any last thoughts about any other roleplayers?
Alberto Del Rio - Don't you dare set any limits to yourself or compare your work to the work of anyone else. You're gonna be great here as long as you don't restrict yourself, I promise.
Tyler Malcolm - I love your character and the first two RPs I got to see from you. You're on your way to big things.
Kammy - You owe me a damn rematch where you actually show up.
CM Punk - I can't wait to see bigger and better things from you because I know you have it in you and I'm expecting to be impressed very shortly.
