This month's Mind Behind features Raven, a former World Champion with dynamic roleplays that are always a joy to read... but let's get to know the man behind the character.
1. Who or what got you interested in the world of E-Feds?
It is actually a weird story, one that probably is hard to explain, but I will give it a go. I used to go on a forum called Figure Slam Forums. There was a guy on named Eugene who I met through that site who opened up his own forum. He had a role-play section and I had no idea what that was. The only fellow user on the role play section was a user called Chris Masters. He asked me to role-play for NHBWO. I joined the site and still had no idea what role-playing was until about two weeks later when I started realizing what I needed to do.
2. Do you remember your first match/experience?
I know my first match was a triple threat, but I couldn’t remember who I faced. I think one of my opponents was possibly Val Venis. The only thing I remember is that in my first role-play I called out Vince McMahon, stating that he feared me.
3. What is the driving force behind your role-plays and where do you come up with your ideas?
Any emotion based role-plays come from how I am actually feeling at the time. A lot of role-plays are based on my life, just modified to fit the Raven character. Sometimes song lyrics inspire me. “Better Than Me” by Hinder actually inspired several role-plays. A lot of my favorite stories also influence my role-plays. Works by Poe, Wilde, and Gilman are always alluded to in my role-plays.
4. How did you come up with the idea to play Raven?
I was a huge fan of his work in NWA-TNA at the time. I guess he was just my favorite wrestler when I started. If I started now I can say that I definitely would not have chosen Raven.
5. What has been your most memorable feud?
Truthfully, I really don’t remember much about my feuds. I remember various things: Ryan Beyer magically winning an Elimination Chamber match that he wasn’t involved in, marrying Kammy, facing Tyger and losing on three separate occasions.
6. What are some things you really like about E-Wrestling?
I just truly love creative writing, and role-playing is an unusual and enjoyable creative writing session.
7. What about things you dislike?
I dislike losing. I dislike people who don’t understand my role-plays.
8. Do you prefer working as a heel, face, or neutral?
To myself I always worked as a neutral character. Most people would probably argue that I was a heel, but Raven is not a heel. He is a broken man, a confused man, a tormented man, and he is simply trying to figure out who he is while also taking his aggression out on other people. I think I was briefly a face once and I hated it… Raven just isn’t meant to be a face.
9. In a RP what do you mainly focus: Character Development, talking trash about your opponents, or deep detail? And why is that?
Recently, my role-plays have simply been just about myself. I have been experiencing my personal feelings through the Raven character. Typically, it is all about character development. If you look at my last two role-plays, you can note the demise of the Raven character and that is something I will be focusing on for awhile. The Raven character will be dead by the end of the summer so I can introduce a new gimmick that will always focus on character development. I just thinking talking trash about your opponent is boring and cliché. I always prided myself on having role-plays that were short and probably lacking detail.
10. How do you keep up with your personal life and your E-fed life?
It is not difficult. My personal life is first. If I can’t role-play one week, I just don’t role-play. Role-playing is a hobby, not a job. When it starts feeling like a job, I no longer enjoy it.
11. What is your motivation to continue churning out all of these role-plays?
I am motivated to continue the demise and death of Raven, so I am pretty motivated to keep going. Obviously, I missed last week, but again my personal life comes first.
12. How do you like the Out Of Character atmosphere?
I don’t really care for it. I rarely bother with anyone on SNME outside of the site.
13. What is your favorite role-play that you have written in your time in SNME?
I have had several role-plays I was really proud of. I really do not have a favorite.
14. What has been your best and worst e-wrestling experiences?
I remember being really fond of wining the NHBWO for the first time. I guess losing is my worst experience.
15. Have you set any goals for your character and if so how close are you to having achieved them?
The final set of goals I have for my character will soon be achieved.
16. Is there anyone in particular that you would like to feud with in the future?
I would really love one last match against Kammy and Justin Tyger. I am still begging for a match against Shawn Michaels. After those three, I just want to feud with someone young.
17. Are there any Characters no longer active in SNME that you would have liked to feud with?
I think I have feuded with everyone I always wanted to. I would really love another feud with Chris Jericho, Batista and Ryan Beyer though.
18. Time to put you on the spot... Who do you think the Top 5 roleplayers are currently in SNME and why?
1. Justin Tyger
2. Ken Kennedy
3. G-Stone
4. Seth Akira
5. Chance
19. What would be your dream match and who would be in it?
Shawn Michaels versus Ryan Beyer versus Justin Tyger versus Ken Kennedy versus Joey Leon versus Raven in a Hell in a Cell match! That would be all sorts of wicked.
20. What do you hope to have accomplished by this time next year?
Hopefully, if this place is still around, I will be World Champion with my new character.
21. Do you see yourself holding the World Championship one last time?
I would really love to, but I highly doubt I will.
22. How long have you been role-playing for?
My first match was December of 2005.
23. If you were to leave E-fedding, how do you think people would react?
I really don’t think it would make that much of a difference. I have a few people who think I am amazing and would probably miss me, but this place is going to keep going with or without me.
24. If you could choose your last opponent to ever role-play against, who would you choose and why?
Ryan Beyer. I think he is the greatest role-player ever and it would be the greatest honor to face him again.
25. Any last thoughts?
Shawn Michaels – Needs to come back to face Raven.
Roy Rowe – I think he has the worst ring name of all time, and I think he is pretty overrated. He is good right now because SNME is lacking a lot of main event talent.
Randy Orton – As much as I like him, I don’t think he is anywhere near as good as people are making him out to be.
"Soulfire" Justin Tyger – One of the best, ever.
"Hellman" G Stone – As talented as he is underrated.
Mr. Kennedy – Extremely talented and deserves all the credit he gets.
Brock Lesnar – Always had a lot of potential, but that is all he will ever be. He will never break through the glass ceiling.
Johnny Magnum – I think he is talented, but the Magnum character is not going to bring him to the top. Magnum can be good, but he could be great with the right character.
Alberto Del Rio – Talented, but I think Del Rio is a limited character which will most likely hold him back.
Chance – Great character, great role-player, and underappreciated.
Triple H – He was really good five years ago. Now he just seems dated.
Seth Akira – so talented. He will be SNME Champion one day.
Kammy – Underutilized because she was a girl.
Zack Ryder – Take care…SPIKE YOUR HAIR!
